Shut Up Cancer
I'm excited to announce my quads and I will be participating in our 4th Cancervive Cycle Tour in September 2017. I'll be riding in memory of my mom who we lost to cancer two years ago and for my dad who's a cancer survivor. My bicycle, Samantha, and I will be riding through Banff Nationl Park and the foothills of Southern Alberta over 6 days. I'm riding to support of Wellspring Calgary; I'm asking for your help in making this happen.
Here’s an alarming stat -- 43 people a day are diagnosed with cancer in Alberta. While medical treatment works to improve the condition, there are many after-effects of cancer and its treatment that can cause changes to one’s body, mind and emotional health. As a yoga therapist who has taught those with cancer I have seen how important mind-body therapy can be for those living with the disease. Plus as a family member of someone who's left us, I understand the need for emotional support and a virtual hug when you're the one left behind. Sometimes a literal one is needed, too. Wellspring is the only centre of its kind in Western Canada that addresses the non-medical needs that a cancer diagnosis can bring. Over 500 people accessed Wellspring Calgary's services last year for the first time.
DONORS: With a donation of $150 you can provide free resources, support and programs for one member for an entire month! Even your $25 weekly latte fund can help make a difference in someone's life. Please consider supporting my efforts to ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
ART LOVERS: For the second year I will be selling my art in exchange for donations. Follow along on Facebook, search #ArtforCancervive, and head to kimmcneilyoga.ca/shop/type/art to see a gallery of available pieces. Please tell others to help spread the word, I'd be gratedful if you did!
I'll share photos again from my year and ride. Pray for my quads.
