Welcome to My Cancervive Fundraising Page!
HI! I've signed up to do the Cancervive ride this September 12-17. As many of you know, I've done this ride twice before as part of the Peloton Project that had 9-day rides to various US cities connected to Livestrong, but the ride is now a local Alberta ride, and continues to raise awareness about living with cancer, and money for Wellspring which is an amazing (now two-site in Calgary and one in Edmonton) place that helps patients and their families have support during and after cancer treatment. If you look on the www.wellspringcalgary.ca site you will see the myriad programs offered, but also wonderful testimonials from the thousands of participants.
Cancervive itself is a grass roots organization started about 12 years ago by Brian McGregor initially because of a chance encounter with Lance Armstrong, and Brian's own experience with testicular cancer. The organization has flourished because of the commitment of hundreds of riders and volunteers, and an extraordinary part of the ride is that often cancer survivors are also participating and others of us are helping make this possible. It is all part of them "getting their lives back" or continuing to live with hope and energy in the context of living with cancer.
My commitment is to raise at least $3000, but I'd like to do better than that! Except for a small amount that supports the ride, all of the money goes to Wellspring and tax receipts are issued.
I had rewarding, if exhausting, experiences in the rides of 2010 (to Austin,Texas) and 2012 (to Lewiston, Maine) but with moving to Victoria it hasn't been entirely practical to stay involved. Mike and I have continued to support Cancervive and Wellspring and decided we would get back in the saddle this year, for a very challenging 6 day, 650 Km ride through parts of Kananaskis, the Rockies, and the foothills west of Calgary.
Each of us has some direct or indirect experience with cancer. I'm hoping you will want to support this cause and help me reach my fundraising goal! You can donate to this great cause by clicking the link below. (Once you donate, you'll receive an email with an attached tax receipt for income tax purposes.) If you would prefer, you can send a cheque made out to Wellspring Calgary to support my ride and send it to the address listed below. Please make sure you write my name on the cheque or in an attached note so that I know to thank you later. Any amount, great or small, makes a difference. I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.
Every $150 I raise will provide one person living with cancer a full month of resources and programs offered in a welcoming and supportive community!
Thanks very much in advance!!
