Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge 2019

Calgary FD Pensioners Association

First of all..... I need to get a team together. The above photo was my Team at Calgary FD #8 Station D Shift on 4 April 2006 -  Captain Mark Soehner, Ken, Gord, Dave, Deb, Bob & Jake my Dog.

I have appealed to the Calgary retired firefighters through the CFD Pensioners Association to form a challenge team. We have a body of 630 plus retired members with varying stages of health. We have the newly retired to the very aged. Those with walkers to those who can climb stairs like I can.

Will I get a team together?... time will tell. I have not been successful so far. If I get a team together, this is my message:

We'll be participating in the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge on May 5, 2019, in support of Wellspring Calgary. We're excited to take on the challenge and look forward to pushing ourselves to climb the 775 vertical feet (1204 steps) 55 stories to the top of the Encana building in downtown Calgary wearing full duty gear - helmet, coat, pants, boots, air bottle & harness. I am estimating its around 45 pounds in a hot stairwell. The Encana stair has glass on one wall that will magnify the sunshine!

By making a donation to us, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of many! Proceeds from the event will support Wellspring Calgary, a place that provides free programs and resources to those impacted by cancer so that no one has to face cancer alone in Calgary. We all know that cancer is a grim possibility in our line of work. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the life of someone in the Calgary area facing cancer!

Please support our team today!

PS - 12 April 2019 - Looks like I am a team of One for the climb with two weeks to go. I am ready.
